Plain oval bag with knot closure

Простая овальная сумка с застежкой-узелком
This bag is interesting for its shape. It lacks a zipper and has been replaced with a knotted closure over a voluminous piping for the neckline.

Sew the bag along the bottom and sides (red dotted line in the picture).
This bag does not have a zipper, so assembly is simplified. Gather the neck into folds, as shown in the figure. Secure the folds with a couple of hand stitches or machine stitch.

Volumetric edging and handles are sewn from contrasting fabric. The volume is achieved by laying a special cord inside the handle. To sew a voluminous edging for the neck of a bag, measure its length with a measuring tape after laying the folds. Cut out a rectangular edging from a contrasting fabric with 1-1.5 cm seam allowances. One piece for the bottom of the edging and the second for the side edging and bag handles.
After inserting the cord into the neckline, sew along the cord to better fix it.

Start processing the neckline by sewing the edging of the concave part. Its right and left open ends will then be inserted into the piping for the side neckline and handles. The edging is sewn in the same way as a regular oblique inlay.

The side edging consists of two parts. One is a straight segment, which is attached according to the principle of an oblique inlay. The part of the edging that goes into the handles is sewn like ordinary handles with an inserted cord, that is, the fabric seam allowances go inside the bag. To do this, first fold the edging fabric inside out, step back from the edges of the fabric to the length of the straight sections of the edging, sew. Turn right side out, insert the cord all the way. Then sew the loose ends to the corresponding sections of the neck of the bag. In the seam, hide the ends of the piping for the center of the neckline, which is already sewn on.
